Modbury

From a practical point of view, Modbury is home to the nearest supermarket to Apple Barn. About a 10-minute drive away, this small town has a Co-op which is useful if you can’t get what you need at Holywell Stores, the convenience store at St Ann’s Chapel on the road to Bigbury.

Modbury is a lovely town, with the impressive accolade of being the first town in Britain to become plastic bag-free in May 2007, when all 43 shopkeepers agreed to completely stop supplying plastic bags.

As well as the Co-op, the town has a couple of charity shops, a pharmacy and a hardware store. But the highlight is definitely Modbury’s range of boutique shops and art gallery – we recommend having a browse in Wild Goose Antiques, Fifth Sense, Ringrose and the Brownston Gallery.
